What is the Missing Key?

  • Rosemary Gin

Discover the missing key to your child's reading success with our customized assessment. Identify gaps, provide targeted lessons, and uncover hidden learning challenges.

If only teaching reading were simple, like following a paint-by-number painting.

We all want our children to feel successful in the learning-to-read process. Nowadays, there are many reading curriculums with sequenced lessons, as well as gadgets and apps.  While you may have a curriculum you are following, the curriculum writer doesn’t know your child, and following lesson by lesson may not be the complete answer. Figuring out what to do to create lessons at a micro-level can be overwhelming when you just don’t have time to do everything..

Are you one of many who are puzzled because the reading lessons you are teaching aren’t creating a fun, exciting learning environment for your learner?  In fact, is your learner actually displaying displeasure with learning to read, claiming it’s too hard and making a fuss about reading lessons?

Often, there is something else hidden behind the scenes that haven’t surfaced yet. Seeing your child perform like this causes anxiety and distress because no mom wants to create distress for their child, yet you know how important reading is, and you wish for them to come to learn to love reading as you did. So how do you work around the meltdowns and actually get your child to learn to read??

There are free reading assessments that help find the gaps in decoding.  I have looked at some of these free versions, and I find that they lack in one or two areas because they may not want to give it all away.

Cassy was following the standard lessons with her daughter; however, she began to shut down, and she didn’t know why. She was still struggling to find the missing key to help her daughter learn to read.  She found our reading assessment a breakthrough. The assessment revealed the key issue.  She was still struggling with letters and sounds due to an unknown learning disability, but the lessons were pushing her to decode words far above her level. Our reading assessment helped us develop customized reading strategies at her daughter’s peak of ability and determine how she learned best.

We call ourselves reading detectives for a reason.  Our reading assessment doesn’t just assess the reading process but also phonological awareness.  We provide beginning lessons that zoom in on the student’s point of ability.  Our reader detective perspective helps us analyze the way they learn to see if there is anything related to a learning disability.

When Cassy signed up for our reading assessment, it was the beginning point of learning where her daughter was at, what she needed, and how she learned best.

If you have a struggling reader and have a clue that there might be something going on behind the scenes causing him/her to stumble with reading, our reading assessment will help you, and our reader detective perspective will figure out how they learn best:

  • Includes a phonological awareness testing

  • Provides feedback as to their gaps in any of the reading process

  • Provides lessons at the beginning point of ability so you can help them yourself

  • Provides feedback as to what else may be causing hang-ups in reading.

Don’t wait for your child to just ‘come around’ and begin to figure it out at age 8 or so on their own.
