ACCELERATE YOUR CHILD'S READING GROWTH

Learn more about your child through the eyes of reader detectives! We love to help you use your child's strengths as a bridge over their challenges!

WHAT YOU CAN GLEAN FROM THE DETECTIVE PERSPECTIVE EXPERIENCE:

  • How your child processes the text
  • What skills your child has mastered
  • What strategies your child uses when stuck on a word
  • Which skills are emerging so you know what to focus on next
  • Key strategies that are missing and ideas for instruction

When we teach kids exactly where they are, we collapse time so that each minute is powerful!

HOW DOES THIS EXPERIENCE WORK?

  1. Pick a passage or book that is not too easy or too hard

  2. Record your child reading it (audio or video)

  3. Have your child choose a topic to write about in his/her own handwriting and without help.

  4. Upload this writing sample, the text your child has read, and the video/audio recording

  5. Choose a date and time to meet with us to get your results

  6. The TOWRE-2 assessment (optional) will be administered during the first few minutes of our meeting, then your child can go play while we discuss all the results.

WHAT OUR HAPPY CLIENTS ARE SAYING

Rosmi Karka Subedi

“In a short time Joel is learning so much with Shari and Rosemary. Their teaching is awesome. A couple of months before he didn’t even know 1 word and couldn’t read a book, but now he can read many books. If you want your kids to grow fast and if you don’t know how to teach them without stress, I recommend you to join these reading specialists”.

Mallorie Knight

"Max has become an enthusiastic, excited, comfortable reader after going through this program! And, his first week of school tests had him at the goal reading level for March!"

“…All the struggling, stressed out mommas that are freaking out, I would definitely recommend it.”

Cherilyn Orr

Cassidee made leaps I never thought she could from one month ago! This means the absolute world to me. I’ve worked 1000’s of hours with her, struggling for six years. Every reading specialist out there has worked with her and made a few strides, but nothing like this! You are a complete gift from God. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

TEST OF WORD READING (TOWRE-2)

Upon request, we will also administer the Test of Word Reading (TOWRE-2). TOWRE-2 is the standardized test used for reading research studies in several other facilities.

This assessment quickly evaluates how your child’s word knowledge compares to other children across the world of the same age. Upon completion of the evaluation, we can:

  • Tell you the percentile that your child ranks in comparison to children who have taken this assessment
  • We can tell you if your child struggles with decoding or fluency
  • Analyze the data and guide you where to go next

Our Most Frequently Asked Questions

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers! Please reach out to us, and we'll be glad to respond.

How will this help me in my instruction?

Hearing a child read text tells us how kids integrate all reading skills together: phonological awareness, decoding, sight word knowledge, and fluency to get meaning from a story. It also tells us specific strategies your child uses for reading whole text so that they can understand what they’ve read and don’t get fatigued by the reading process.

Analyzing a child’s writing sample will give you more information about your child as a learner than any assessment on the market today. Breaking down your own child’s writing process will help you to see exactly what skills your child has not only in spelling and writing but also in reading. Kids learn to decode (sound out) before learning to encode (spell). This will tell you which skills are beginning to emerge. These are the skills that your child’s brain is primed for and will take the least amount of effort to master.

The size, formation, and spacing of letters tell us a lot about the fine motor, sensory processing, and writing efficiency. D and B reversals can easily be corrected with changing letter formation.  These are just a few ways this experience will help you in your instruction.

How will this mini assessment help my child with their confidence/motivation level?

This experience will help your child’s confidence because you will have a better understanding of where your child is now.  Knowing where your child is will help you to have more realistic expectations of your child.  It will also let you know what your child is capable of so that you can keep the learning experience at the peak of what he/she can handle without getting frustrated.  It is a fine line that is not always obvious and is constantly moving with each new skill that is mastered.  This is the first step of becoming a reader detective of your child.

Will this mini reader assessment help to identify specific learning disabilities?

This experience is not for diagnostic purposes.  It is simply to show what we can glean from taking a detective perspective and look at all of the clues just a few minutes of reading/writing can tell us about your child.  There are many clues we will discover in this journey.  Some of them can be red flags that can help guide a further evaluation, but Confident Kids Reading Academy does not diagnose learning disabilities.

How long will this take?

Reading the text will take 2-5 minutes, the writing sample will take 15-30 minutes, TOWRE-2 has two-word reading sections (45 seconds each) that will be given during the consultation visit. I have set aside 50 minutes in total for the consultation visit, although it may not take the whole time.
