Blue Ridge Mountain Reading Adventure

This comprehensive program is the 1st step for beginning readers and the 1st mountain in the Timberline Reading Adventure. Our focus here is teaching consonant letters and sounds as well as other prereading skills to set kids up for success.

Violet Mountain Reading Adventure

This 2nd mountain is for parents of kids who recognize most consonant letters/sounds. Here they learn short vowel sounds and efficiently write letters. 'Reading' repetitive books with picture support raises confidence to do the work of learning to read.

Red Mountain Reading Adventure

This 3rd mountain is a complete reading/writing program for teaching kids who know how to write most letters and are ready to build 3 letter words. Here they are introduced to digraphs (ch, sh, wh, th) and they learn to read simple words in stories.

Orange Mountain Reading Adventure

This 4th mountain is a complete reading/writing program for teaching kids who have mastered 3 letter short vowel words and are ready to learn 4 or 5 letter blends (clap, jump). We also teach several strategies for figuring out challenging words.

Yellow Mountain Reading Adventure

This 5th mountain is a complete reading/writing program for teaching kids who have mastered all short vowel sounds in CVC words and most blends (clap, jump). They are ready to learn CVCe words (cave, take, tote).

Green Mountain Reading Adventure

This final mountain for teaching single syllable decoding is a complete reading/writing program for teaching kids who have mastered CVCe words and are ready to learn long vowel teams (read, boat) and then diphthongs (lawn, boil).

Phonological Awareness Reading Readiness Activities
